if it need a vic test it shouldnt really be on the road until one is done. vic means the car has been subject to a cat c write off which normally means its had a hard hit. without the vic test being done dvla wont issue another v5 for it... so without a v5 it aint worth much....

its got mot and tax was moted in november will be going to get vic next week, and a car that needs a vic can be driven on the road as its been repaired
The VIC is a check of identity, it doesn’t look at the quality of the repair or confirm roadworthiness

ok... no problems. i've been repairing cars for years and dont know of anyone to get a V5 without a VIC20 cert.

snip straight from VOSA's website.

Vehicle Identity Check
The Vehicle Identity Check (VIC) is a scheme to help stop stolen cars being passed off as repaired accident damaged cars. This is also known as ‘ringing’. You can check if a vehicle needs a VIC and submit your application online.

How a VIC marker is set
Insurers must notify the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) of all cars ‘written off’ within salvage categories A, B or C. This notification will set a ‘VIC marker’ against the DVLA vehicle record. While a VIC marker remains set, DVLA won’t issue a registration certificate V5C, or vehicle licence reminder V11.

The VIC marker will only be removed when the car passes a VIC.

Oh and this will be added to the V5....

The V5 issued will be annotated to show ‘substantially repaired and/or accident damaged; identity checked on dd/mm/ccyy’.

Saying that, my Morris Minor needed a VIC check (it was a CAT C write off) as some little a*sholes had vandalised her - all that was wrong was a dented bonnet, front wings and a broken bonnet emblem. I didn't even fix them, just took it to the test centre and got a Cert.

If its all ok, (MOT/Taxed) it should be easy to fetch about £1500. How bad was the damage when it was written off?

yeah most of the time insurance companies just write things off to keep salvage in circulation. there are companies that can actually take the CAT marker off the car. think its about £200 inspection fee. never done it before but heard about it. problem is the marker de-values the car in question even if it was just a scraped bumper.
