Please give your topic a title that quickly describes your problem. Just putting 'Help my Mini doesn't work' is useless to anyone trying to help.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Model:mini mayfair
Year:1994
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):my car has been sitting in the garage since may when my hubby passed away, had it out twice in the last 2 weeks no problem, friday the gears seemed a bit stiff, but thought it was just me swapping between a 96 bmw and the mini. but went out this morning and not only is the thing spluttering which it never does but i can't put it into gear at all. the resevoir is full, but last may when i put fluid in it there was a comment from a friend that i put the wrong stuff in, but it was driving fine for a few weeks afterwards then it was garaged, anyone got any ideas, its supposed to be back on the road on march the 1st and i am now pulling my hair out...i can find my way round a car, so don't worry that i won't know what ur talking about..lol
Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem?
automatic transmission fluid...i was sure its what my hubby had me put in, but after the mate pulled a face i started to doubt myself, my husband bought stuff to put in it, showed me the bottle and said it was red fluid, so when i had to fill it i searched the shelf where he kept the stuff and the only bottle i could find that matched was this,.....
i would remove the fluid and refill and bleed using new fluid.
you could have damaged the seals with the thicker oil.
but i would dran it and bleed it to see what happens, try the seals.
what does the clutch peddle feel like when u push it down.
Ditto that. Dot4 or 5 clutch and brake fluid is the best. If its been sat a while you may have popped the seals.
its def the clutch cylinder then, so drain it and and bleed with new brake/ clutch fluid, (same stuff).
it a easy job just takes to of u.
to empty it undo the nipple and pump all the fluid out, put a little in to flush out then pump that out. refill and hope the seals are ok.
if not the seals are only a fiver or so.
