Model:Mini City E 1992
Year:1992

Im in the very early stages of planning a new dashboard, using all Smiths guages. I currently have a 3 dial nippon set up.

I've had a quick search on the forum and found a link to this conversion loom http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=34850

Im not converting to a centre speedo, they'll be arranged in a dash im making. So what I want to know is, is the loom above suitable and an easier option for what I want to do? (may sound a stupid question, probably is!)

Im aware I may have to change the speedo cable, which is no problem.

Has anyone else done this with a similar aged car?? Anything else I should be wary of??

Many Thanks.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, you may have to add a common earth for multiple gauge cases.

The MiniSpares link would not load for me (for whatever reason) so take my comments as reference only and disregard them if they don't appear to apply.

The NS gauges will have a voltage stabilizer built in. If you are planning on discrete Smiths gauges (electrical ones for fuel and temperature), you will need to add a voltage stabilizer somewhere. This assumes one is not included with the part you provided the link to above.

I can see the link & Doug's right, you will need a voltage regulator. You might be as well off just adding terminals in place of the edge connector, I imagine your gauges will come with illumination so you won't need the bulb holders.

Cool, thanks for your help :dontgetit:

I didnt think there'd be a problem using the loom, but you know what they say when things look too good to be true!

The main benefit is that (if I ever wanted to) I could swap back to the original 2 or 3 dial set up having not chopped off the nippon connector and still keep the wiring neat.

I've been mulling this over in my head all day whether or not to just to go for a centre speedo conversion anyway, just purely for the cosmetics! Decisions decisions!

Thanks again.
