Oil Pressure Valve Stuck In There?

Hi,

Was just about to begin my engine build today when I double checked where the oil pressure spring and valve sits, now I'm not sure if there is something stuck in there, what I see is something of a lighter silver with a hole in it. When I flash a light down the hole I can see the light at the smaller port of where the oil pump sits and when I flash a light from where it drains off at bottom of block into gearbox at flywheel end (small hole) I can see the light inside the bore of where the oil spring/valve sits

If I put in another seat I have it covers the oil drain hole that goes down the block

Also is this cam bearing okay? Doesnt seem to have the full circle of the oil feed?

Oh yeah the replacement plunger I have doesnt have a hole in it, so it isnt a plunger in there is it? Is it the seat for it?

I'm unsure as when I took the spring out when taking the block apart I remember no plunger came out so I'm not sure if it fell out during machining...

Does the plunger cover the drain hole to the sump? Reading the haynes is seems if there is too much pressure the plunger is pushed so it can drain to the sump through the hole that is covered when I put the plunger in

you can often get a stuck plunger out by using a suitable tap to bit into the inside of it... you can then pull it out.

I've been advised that it is the valve seat, which the plunger sits on, so its all okay?

Yup its all fine, its the valve seat which the plunger sits on. The plunger covers up the drain hole to the sump but when there is too much pressure the plunger compresses the spring and moves past the drain hole to let the oil through :dontgetit:

That's the seat, the pressure comes through it to lift the plunger. There should be a drilling visible for drainage.

Not sure on the cam bearing, doesn't look like a drilled hole in the photo & I've got a feeling the rear bearing lubes itself from oil pump leakage?

Yes it's the seat. It's a seperate part because the oil pressure relief drilling runs through the same space as one of the main bearing risers from the main oil gallery. If you haven't fitted the gallery plugs yet you can use pipe cleaners to show what runs where and you'll see that two are in the same place. So the seat is pressed in and has the relieved area as you can see in Ethel's photo around the outside for the oil gallery supply to pass around. That's why it looks a different colour.
