Hi there,

Recently bought myself a new mini, but it's doing things my other minis haven't done and I'm not sure if everything is looking healthy or not. What happens is when you start the engine the oil pressure light stays on for 5 seconds before going out. So changed the oil and filter and put in some nice halfords 20w50, also replaced the oil pressure light switch with a new one (normal 7psi one). Same thing still occurs. None of my other minis have done this before, the light has always gone out very quickly. Is this the sign of a worn oil pump maybe?? I will be replacing the relief valve later in case its that and will post up what happens.

Also, the gearbox is quite whiny. Not seriously loud, but does it in every gear and is very noticeable. Not had this on my previous minis either. Does it sound like maybe my engine/box is on its way out....?

Cheers

Ben

Aye - could be worn pump - you would do well to fit an oil pressure gauge and see what's actually happening. Whine in all gears is usually a drop gear problem, bit could also be the final drive.
