this morning I went out to my car on the drive which was basically a shell on the inside. NOTHING in there at all bar the steering column.
I changed the heater because mine was busted, Changed EVERYTHING for good parts from the other mini!
Anyway, Decided to take all the foamy stuff off the floor, Duno what it was but it was soaking wet from where the old heater had been leaking over the years.
so, Peeled the sponge off, Got out the heat gun and started drying the floor out. Next thing I knew, The Heat gun melted the silicone which was allover the floor, and it dropped through the floor of the car leaving 3 holes. :gasp:
So the floor had been silicone'd up by some F**kwit in the past!
Anyway, Got out the wire brush and took all the rust away and then hammerited it all up.
For the time being Ive just siliconed a piece of plastic to the floor I cut from an old reg plate. Im gona go see a welder 2mora in my lunch to see if he can plate it.
How much is it going to cost for a weld doing like this.

The biggest hole is no bigger than a £2 coin. but the holes are quite spread out.
The drivers side heel plate has 3 rust holes in it.
The passenger side where the arch meets the floor has a hole about the size of a lighter.
And the drivers door inner sill (The pannel which is below the doors) has 3 Rather large holes in it, But its an internal pannel which isnt supporting anything, So Im not so fussed about that. I can easily rivit a sheet of alloy / tin over it.

That is a structural panel. Furthermore, its likely that corrosion is within 30cm of the lower seatbelt mount point. And the drivers door inner sill (The pannel which is below the doors) has 3 Rather large holes in it, But its an internal pannel which isnt supporting anything.

If so I would condsider getting them removed and checking the integrity of the inner sill front to back.

Aaaand In english pweese? :tongue:Does it have over sills ?

Not sure if the corrosion is within 30cm of the seatbelt mount point. Shall have to check.
So what happens if all this rot/rust is so bad it dosent pass MOT. Does that mean its "Take mini to Scrappers" time?

Over sills are repair panels which are designed to be welded over the existing sills. They are easily spotted by the fact that they have bumps in the sills which are pressed into the panel, which cover the old sill drain holes and are also seam welded front to back to the underside of the floor pan..
Oversills are considered the cheap way round a failing sill, and if done correctly are ok, but when just stuck over a rotting sill, will then induce rotting from the inside out.

So what do I do now?

Also, around the drivers side air vent theres a few rot holes which ive filed out and hammerited.

turned into this....

Have a good look through the hole of the inner sill, and open it out to have a feel & get a hoover in there... remove as much of the loose stuff as possible then feel the condition of the inside of the outer sill..

The holes around the air vent are no bigger than a penny.
The holes on the inner sil are quite big though, but ive hoover'd it all out and dried it all up with a heat gun.
I really dont want to have to replace any outer pannels because spraying them is gona cost. ££££
I think I will get the floor welded up and get a new place welded over that inner sil thingey, Then just hammerite everything.
I will probably just run the car into the ground anyway. Then when i get another mini, I shall transfer everything off my purple one onto the new un!
Only problem atm is I need to get the holes welded up soonish because its really went outside and I dont think it will be long before the heavy rain comes in. :erm:
Will have to go see a welder at lunchtime.
