Brake Pipe Union Sizes

Hello i need a bit of advice please. I need to buy some brake unions but am not sure on the size as there are a few different ones. have been searching around but can't find what i need and I need to buy them tomorrow. I have a 94 sprite and am making new brake lines for the front to go from the pressure reducing valve to the joins at the braided hoses for each caliper. What size unions do i need for each end of these pipes. Also I'm doing a bit of a setup change and I want to get rid of this

and get the T piece from the rear subframe to run one at the front. Do I need different size unions for that valve? Any help would be much appriciated as I'm getting all confuzzled.

They should be either 3/8unf or M10x1. if that's a standard braided hose from Minispares it'll be unf at both ends. 3/8" is slightly more than 9.5mm but less than 10.

Cheers Ethel. They are metro to mini conversion goodridge braided hoses for my 4pot turbo brakes. Not too worried about that side of things as They fit but I am going to replace the solid pipe work around the engine bay and it's these I want to replace and put in the T piece from the rear subby. Are the ones going into the T piece 3/8unf?

Be very careful with this. The threads at the reducing valve are METRIC and at the other ends they are IMPERIAL. I know it sounds crazy, but that was the way Rover did it. It is not very obvious either as the sizes are almost the same and it's possible to fit an Imperial end into a Metric hole, with possibly disasterous results.

yes I have heard this. I'm not gonna mess with the end connected to the reducing valve and if i do have to make up a new pipe I'll use the same union

Very wise. That's what I always do. Much the safest way. I had a Mini to look at where someone had fitted a set of new pipes but they were Imperial at all ends and they managed to screw two of the pipes into the Metric reducing valve. I had to strip out the front-to-rear pipe and replace it. Very expensive mistake. Luckily the thread in the reducing valve was still OK and it sealed and bled OK in the end. What a b****y stupid design. A basis for easy erros in a safety-critical system. Heads should have rolled for this at Rover. Still, they all got fired in the end!
