Ok my 1990 mayfair is being stubborn, every now and then the indicators stop working but soon sort themselves out, a couple of weeks ago however they just stopped all together so i took of the cowl and pushed the connection back in (i think it was the green and brown wire :- )
That sorted the problem until today when they have once agin packed in, so this time i took the wires out to see if they were a bit dirty or something, because i thought that could be the reason. but after taking them out and giving them a quick clean i put them back in and now the damn stalk wont even go up or down.
every time i click it down or up it just springs straight back into the middle. maybe i didnt put the wires in the right place, any pictures etc. of what goes where? its not the bulbs and i dont think its the flasher unit becasue the hazards work fine. any help would be greatly appreciated :D

Chances are you just need to replace the main fuse box.

But as for the stalks, well try doing a search because their damned fiddly and it's not a good idea to strip them down as springs go flying off everywhere.

Yes you can take the column stalks off complete, but the springs and things go flying when you strip it down and that's when taking the silver face plate off by undoing all those little fiddly screws.

There's also a ball bearing that has to be in a certain place to enable the indicator stalk action to click correctly. If you know how it all goes back together then it's not too bad, but it's a nightmare if you don't. Even then it's damned fiddly getting the face plate back on without disturbing the inner workings.

My indicators were giving me loads of greef as well. NOt flashing, or not coming on all together...then the dashboard lights and rear lights stopped coming on. Eventually found that the fuse box wasnt holding the lower fuse in place securely. So as id go over a bump, it would loose contact. Wrapped it in foil for now and all is fine :D

Wrapped it in tin foil and all is well for now?

Yes sure until your Mini turns into an inferno.

:D

A new fuse box costs a couple of quid and is much cheaper than a replacement Mini. So replace the fuse box now.

Right went out today and had a look at everything, managed to sort out the stalks by fiddling about lol but indicators still wont work.
i checked the connections from the stalk, they all seem fine. i checked all the fuses, all good. checked fuse box connections, one loose so i pushed it right back in. Checked the fuse box, no corrosion. even checked the flasher unit (well one of them but apparently there are too ) and still no joy.
Please help me its killing me not being able to drive it :trooper:

PS thanks for the help so far

Try flicking the hazard warning light switch on and off several times, also with the indicators on too.

A dodgy hazard switch can prevent the indicators from working.

Do you think i should replace it? How much will it cost do you reckon for a new one?

Edit: just been out and tried this and it didnt show up anything so its not the hazard switch, however i did fiddle with the wires coming from the stalk while the indicator was on and managed to get it indicating left but not right, so maybe a bad connection after all. what do you think to getting all new "Lucar" connectors (right connections?) and just fitting them all again, could do the trick? if so where do i get the connectors from.
cheers

Maplins sell connectors if you have a local branch, otherwisw Auto Electric Supplies on the internet have everything you would ever need.
