Car is going well but can't get it dyno'd till next Tuesday what with all the bank hol's. One annoying thing is that when turning the engine over with a spanner to set the tappets, the fan must have got stuck on the crankcase breather and snapped off a blade, because now it has a mad shake/judder. does it never end?

Heres the Dyno run, it's a bit hard to see but think it's 63 ftIb at 3850rpm and 55 bhp at 5600rpm.

Thought i'd make a start on tubbing the passenger side arch, took the petrol tank out, good job too as the jubilee clip on the under side of the floor was completely rusted
away, and the rubber pipe just slipped off the metal pipe, will replace the fuel level sender unit with the new one i have, and hope that will solve the gauge going all the way down when you still have half a tank left.

Cut the arch out, and while picking at some loose seam sealer found a Brucie bonus.

A hole.

So cut it out.

Made a template.

Cleaned up the old edge, that was still good.

Posted Image
And will weld that back in to keep the arch looking right.

The wind today has been playing havoc with the welder, making it split because it's blowing the gas away, so gave up on it and got the BBQ out for the 1st time this year.

Got most of the welding done to tub the arch and will finish that tomorrow, then seam seal and underbody seal. I'm on holiday next week so this my last weekend to do any
last minute jobs, still at least the car is road worthy, but may not have all the shinny bits on that i wanted to get done.

Quick pic as it was getting dark.

Well it's been a busy day. Passenger arch is done, no pic's as it pretty much a carbon copy of the driver side but with less rust.
Ebay fan is on, the old is a bit the worse for ware and my heavy hand.

Oops.

Changed the tank sender.
Posted Image
Out with the old.

Posted Image
In with the new.

I swear i took more pictures, will add them if i find them.

Well this is a bit overdue as the arches have been on since L2B, and the good news is that they are still on. >_<

1st i put the arch up to the car to check how close they fit, which was pretty good, just sanded them where needed to match the contour's of the wing.

Posted Image
Then roughed the under side of the arch and bonded the brackets on, not a great angle to take the picture from, but they are basically aluminium 'L' brackets.

Posted Image
with this stuff, that a local firm had recommended, did try epoxy resin but the bracket pulled off as soon as any flex or pressure was applied.

Posted Image
then it was a matter of all hands on, to hold the arch where i wanted it and draw through the hole with a small sharpie pen, drill the holes, treat them with waxol, fit the body to arch trim and fix the arches on with stainless domed allen key bolts.

Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image
oh yeah and if you saw me with a massive case on the roof and thought it's only one night, it's because we had just come back from our Sun holiday in Great Yarmouth, then to L2B, and drop off the cases owners in Ipswich, before driving home. The only issue i had was the 35 amp fuse keeps blowing.?
Have made a front grill, still needs a bit of trimming, and some more holes drilling in it as i has it over heat for the 1st time ever.

With regards to this mate, i had the same problem a while ago, go to the boot and check that no wires are trapped under the fuel tank, as after i had had the tank out, i had put it in on the wires slightly crushing them, and then over time driving hitting pot holes etc, the rim on the tank had cut through the wires and was causing a short blowing the fuse every time i hit a slight bump.... Was a pain in the butt and took me ages to realise what id done...!! Might not be this with your mini... but worth a quick check... >_<

Found the cause of the fuse blowing, it was option number TWO, the reverse light switch wiring has ether touched the exhaust or just rubbed though, have disconnected it inside the car and will get underneath ASAP, should have a loom in the shed, that why we need to horde stuff.

??? Guess that is some sort of smiley?... The car has been running very well, love blasting up the lanes on the way to work, just a couple of things are starting to concern me. I have to top up the water almost daily, but it's not a leak as such, its's coming out of the overflow pipe, I've got a cheap Chinese alloy rad and wondered if the spring in the cap is starting to soften, not allowing the pressure to build up ?, but the second issue may tie in with this, I am also loosing oil fr om the filler cap, from somewhere around the oil press switch and the cam cover, i'm thinking maybe need new piston rings, but there is no blue smoke, the breathers are not blocked and the car goes a treat, as the 55 pony's on the dyno show. arr well, Ill give an oil change and see how we go from there.

Been a while since i've been on here, used to get updates of peoples progress by e-mail, but when they changed to this new format i don't seem to get them. Anyway the car it's self has been going ok, but the MOT ran out last month and i knew it need silly little jobs to pass that i couldn't be bothered to do. I changed the radiator cap and that cured the water leek, I changed the oil and filter and that seems to have stopped oil leak from the filler cap but not the pressure switch, so may change that for the 22 lb type, i need to make some adapters so that i can fit an additional gauges for oil pressure and water temp. That all folks.
