Stonechip How Many Coats

hey guys been doing some stonechipping on my mini with spay can stonechip how many coats of the stuff do you guys usually put on thanks ross it will be painted of with top coat aswell

Think about it logically, the more layers the better the protection however if you are using aerosol stonechip then this will be expensive.

You can get the larger tins which you attach to a special spray head and then use a compressor if you have one. Mucho cheaper, for a mini i would think 2 maybe 3 tins would be sufficient but areas like the rear valance, the front panel and back of the A panels would need more just to give you better protection in these areas.

I used 3 tins on my MK2 RS2000 many years ago and where i needed protection on the sills but not such a heavy finish i mixed one tin 50:50 with white spirit giving a finer finish.

ok thanks for the help ive only done 4 coats and thought that would be enought i better carry on lol might just carry on and see how long the can lasts thanks ross

I usually give it 3 light coats out the compressor ran guns giving each coat around 15 minutes between in warm conditions, longer in the cold.

Try not to keep slapping it on, it can start to look a little heavy and bodge-tastic.

wel ive done 4 coats and its come out nice and flat so that should be fine thanks for the advice guys thanks ross
