Not sure if its been covered before, I cant seem to find it but I want to get some sound up front and was thinking about putting speakers where the air vents are at the moment, but I want to keep the classic look and don't to be able to see the speakers so was wondering if I could fit them behind the air vent control? so it would all look original but instead of air coming out the vents I would have sound ;) Would it compromise the sound too much and is it simple to block the incoming air? I was thinking a bit of gaffa over the hole from outside but thats probably going to be useless :dontgetit:

I have looked at all the other options but none really seem to be what I want. Speaker pods look big and bulky and I have heard that putting them in door pockets isn't great so this sounded like it might be a good option if its possible :)

If anyone has done it before or has any pictures that would be great or if my idea is useless then let me know :)

Thanks.

I kinda asked this about half an hour ago... I want exactly the same.. was thinking to put some tweeters behind the dash...

I don't want to use my air vents as speakers because of the look... and also, want to alter the heater so that warm air comes out of them... eventually... just need to get that sorted...

What you could do... is twist your vents round so the back inlet pipe is facing towards the centre of your car (behind the dash) and then fit some speakers to the pipe... the sound should come out through the vents then...

That's my only idea....

cheers

Gave it a go today and managed to squeeze them in, Its a bit of a bodge but I'm happy ;) Had to put some spacers in so that the vents could open. Also went the the scrap yard and got a couple of tweeters from an old rover for 50p and put them on the dash. Its all sounding pretty nice now. My 6x9s under the rear seats are running off my amp and they deal with all the bass and the dash speakers are running off the HU and the have all the mid and top. Its just nice to have sound coming from the front now :)

Got a couple of pictures..

Have you got more details of how you attached the tweeters in that position? Mine were always held in with bluetack!

At the moment they are only resting there ;) they don't move at all though how they are, they just jam in the corner really well :)

think about using magnetic ribbon speakers from a damaged plasma monitor or LCD screen - most are very good quality, and my local council tip usually has 5 or 6 screens piled up most weekends - a quick fiver to the right guy usually secures a pair.

theyre rectangular and very slimline, and sound superb from a car head-unit. they lack super deep bass, but you dont really want that in the dash area at a guess.
