Hello,

I'm currently painting my mini renault liquid yellow which is a three stage paint! Basecoat, pearl coat then laquer! Everything was going smoothly and a lovely flat finish then I noticed and area about 2cm on the top of the drivers wing! Its a small dip in the paint with a small line! I flattened the laquer but you can still see the mark in the pearl coat!
I masked the area and flattened it to 400 then blew over the area with basecoat and then flattened that to 600! At this stage you can't see a mark in the paint! I then pearl coated and then laquered! When left for about an hour the paint had all set and the mark had returned! Because the whole paint process is 1 pack and the laquer eats into the paint before I think is shrinking onto this mark?

But how do I get rid of it with going crazy and taking the paint back?

You might get a response with pictures... (not that I would know either way...) but I always find pictures get much better response...

Cheers

Ok so iv either got a rubbish camera or I'm being paranoid because I did the spray job! This is the best picture I could do but it is more noticeable in person when light is moved

Its in the centre of both pictures

Looks like sinkage.

Is that an area of repair?

Possibly where you have filled an unwanted aerial hole in?

Iv tried everything lol

The only time you can see the mark is if your stood direct above it so It would only be me seeing it really! I think I'm just gunna finish the car and then if its annoying me when driving ill get a spray shop to correct it as they know more than I do

Bad news is I would personally strip it back to se if there is and old repair there then dab of filler smooth it, light primer coat and seal over your repair area with cellulose or 2k putty which isn't porous, then smooth , prime flatten and re-base and laquer. The putty is great stuff to use and not many use it, you should go over any areas of repair work as it cuts down the potential for any sinkage. It aslo so important when painting to use good quality thinners and activtors, doing the prep side is the most important satge , because what goes on top will only show off whats underneath.

Am on a posting surge tonite jeees

erm no i would leave it unless it really bothers you. You say that its a 3 stage pearl you will find it extremly hard to match and the only way it to paint the complete panel or complete side of the car. You cannot blend them, hence why i say leave it. I too am not a fan of celulose putty as have seen ploblems with it retaining solvent and blistering usually when overcoated with 2k primers or paints its just as easy to use a fine 2 pack filler.

I have made a decision to leave it but if someone notices it and comments on it when I'm out and about then I will be taking it to the spray shop!

I'm not too keen on the idea of starting to put stuff onto the paintwork that I know nothing about

You are right it takes a lot of skill to blend a pearl coat, its fairly easy to do the job and the whole car looks amazing but to repair is a pain in the butt!

with three stage pearls its not skill you just cant blend them you have to edge to edge paint them. Which means that the whole wing would require painting and possibly the panels next either side. Just to warn you so you dont get a shock when the paint shop quote alot.
If it is just a base colour that has pearl in it its a different case but as the pearl has been applied as a separate coat/s then they have to replicate this with there conditions and setup.

It looks to me like someone's filled a small dent, and painted over it without priming, and it's picked up around the edges. It won't be so noticeable outside and in the sun, but you will always notice it, because you know it's there!

I can assure you the car was prepped extremely well and filled and the primed and I'm quite a perfectionist which is why a 2cm area has annoyed me so much!
