Hi everyone,

I'm really new in this Mini World and I allready have a question.
I want to change my locks (doors and boot) and I started with the boot cause it looked easy enough. I removed the handle and all the screws, but I got stuck with the lock barrel. I don't know how to remove the lock barrel from the handle.
Can anyone help me, or at least point me into the right direction?

Thank you,
alex

If the later cars are like the early ones, look on the side of the lock barrel assembly for a small brass pin. You drift that pin out to extract the lock's core. You reverse the process to secure the new lock parts in place.

There is still a pin. Lokk at the barrel and you'll see the groove where it sits so you have an idea of where to scrape on the lock if it's gunged over.

Did this on my sisters BOC, start with the doors, they're easy...

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. This is the boot handle that is on my car (is a 2000 Mini Cooper).
Boot Handle

But I didn't find the pin or the groove, or anything that looks like it.
I think I better go to a mechanic or something.

thank again,
alex

If it still looks like that you've got some more disassembling to do, unlock it, and remove the obvious clip, so you can pull the handle out.

+1 for what Ethel said.

More disassembly will be required. You need to remove the "handle & lock" from the boss that bolts to the car before you will be able to access the lock components proper.

I have a similar problem - lost the keys!

I have removed the lock handle mechanism from the boot but am now stuck. There are two small black "pins" - one on either side of the mechanism - that appear to hold the barrel in place in the handle. It might be one pin that goes all the way through.

The pin is set above a set of two washers
The picture below is an attempt to show what I mean (ascii text is so hard to draw with so some of the lines dont line up)
_
{ }_
{ } |==
{ } |__
{ } || |__
{ } ||o |__|
{ } ||__|
{ } |
{ } |==
{ }-
{_}

reading from left to right: The squiggly "{ }"rectangle is the handle, then there is a large oval block "| |"which has the bolts "==" attached. then there is a circular block that houses the barrel. Then there are two circular washers, possibly with a spring between them. then a smaller circular section with the pin "o". Finally the square bar that fits in and turns the locking bar itself
The "o" is the pin. I have tried to turn it, push it in and pull it out

Should I be attempting to remove these pins? If so how?
(Not sure what "drift that pin out" means in the message above)
If not, how to I get the barrel out of the handle?

Any help gratefully received

Logan
