I am hopefully getting a 93' mini sprite in next few weeks have chosen it over an 04' plate fiesta when really head says fiesta but heart says mini lol and the mini is not much cheaper really, I will be more worried about security for mini though!
So far best thing i have seen is a battery isolator that goes on battery with fuse to allow radio etc to work, but if the knob is not there it wont
start and fuse blows! i think the knob un scres right off its from Moss, whilst it be a pain to open boot each time be worth it i think.

Any other suggestions? I remember back in 80's my Dads old cortina simply had a switch i guess put in line of ignition switch, this was hidden
under seat and one night someone tried to take but clearly couldnt as it was left around the corner!! lol
Would this be easy to do on mini?

I was going to get a like a Toad alarm around £180 fitted for cheapest one they do, my dad and bro had on there cars afew year ago!

yes its worth doing and those switches can still be done.

My car has 2 race style battery master switches, one of which is hidden, i have a switch inline with the coils posative feed, and i also have one of those battery disconnectors, but mine is on the earth terminal, so even if they did managed to by pass the others there would be no earth.

Good idea 2 be even better! do you mean those ones with the red like t-key? i guess anyone can buy the keys and they are not unique
but not likely many joy riders will have one!
Tricky thing will be wiring it in lol any diagrams or anything to simply show how to wire up a switch?
Going to have to decide whether to spend on an alarm/immbiliser or not really, at home most likely be garaged in work it be ok, just when i go anywhere else like my folks it be more risky!

Its not hard to wire one in, Cut cable, fit O crimps/solder. then bolt to each side of the switch.

Fuse is optional but not difficult.

New to cars reallly so hopefully wiring plan in haynes manual etc will show which is ignition wires etc, as you say any switch that breaks circuit should do the job!

Yeah did think of that but after years on a motorbike looking forward to not carrying around stuff when go anywhere lol after always having a helmet and all extra gear to wear and carry!

Did see some steering wheel bosses that had like a key lock on as well that looked good so not just any wheel will fit!

ignition cripple switch is very easy, all you need is some 2 core cable (mains flex will do) attach each strand to both sides of the ignition coil (big can looking thing). feed the cable to a hiding place ie under seat, dash etc and connect a rocker switch to the end. All this will do is short the sparkplug signal and refuse to fire up, open the switch and you're back to normal. You could replace the switch with a key switch from maplin.

Thanks yea im thinking this is the way to when i first get it and maybe get an alarm later if i feel need! The ignition coil under bonnet i guess? and only had 2 wires connecting to it? So I dont need to cut
any of the existing wiring this way? ahh yeah the key switch idea is even better!!
