Model: Cooper
Year: 1998
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):

Am I the only one who gets the "Why did I start this job?" feeling?

I am still replacing my Radius arm (slowly). I have managed to remove the rubber cone spring this evening, and I fear I have run into a problem. I had terrible trouble getting it out because it was rusted to the subframe. It is now out, but I am worried that I haven't got the whole thing out. Here's a picture of the subframe:

and the cone spring:

Is that black thing at the bottom of the cup on the subframe, part of the spring, or part of the subframe? That's probably a silly question but I've never done this job before.

I'm just glad I ordered two new springs when I ordered the radius arm - they haven't arrived yet. I had a feeling something like this was going to happen. Plus, I've doubled my work because now I have got to replace the cone on the other side

It's part of the spring - you need to get it off the subby.

The black bit in your photo is the subframe - the crusty outer ring is the bit that needs removing - it should come off with a bit of persuasion from a big hammer!

Now the next question - this job is starting to make me feel like a right numpty! Thank goodness for this forum, because with only the Haynes Manual I would be in trouble...

I've got all of the cone off of the subframe, but how do I get the other end off of the trumpet? I assumed I would find a nut to undo ;) Does the cone just push onto the trumpet - and if so, is there a trick to getting it off?

Stubborn is not the word for them! does anyone have a good way of getting the cone off of the trumpet, i'm rebuilding a new subframe and cannot get the trumpet into the subframe with the cone still connected because it is about 15mm to long when they are still joined together. Have tried beating it with a big hammer but no joy, tried using some heat no joy, please help

It will go back in , in one piece. Just done it and done it on a previous build.

Push the radius arm as far down as it will go. put the knuckle end in then will probably need a lever to get the cone end in. But it should go.
