This topic comes up now and then, but it seems to always deal with the Smiths gauges:

I've recently bought an Nippon Seiki speedometer/odometer (in MPH) for my European SPi, which originally came with a km/h unit. The new unit reads 0 miles, so I'd like to set it to the correct mileage of the car (~59K).

What's the best way to do this? I really don't think using an electric drill is the most elegant solution, as it would take many days of running to add ~59K miles (and I'm pretty sure my drill isn't rated for that kind of duty cycle.)

I presume the odometer gearbox can be partially disassembled so that the number-wheels can be manipulated more directly -- any instructions on doing that?

Thanks,
--Colin

If it's anything like a 205 GTi speedo don't bother. I tried to do the same thing to get rid of the 405 clocks in my old car and the speedo basically fell apart. It was impossible to get back together. I'm assuming they're designed that way to be honest.

The 205 ones have a small pin at the back which enables a small tab on the back of the number dials to stop at the correct place to display the number but because it's so small and fiddly it's damn near impossible to line all the pins up again when you pull them all out.

ive done this, just to see if i could,

seriously, it couldnt be easier. i wont post how to do it here but i will say. once you have taken the actual speedo out of the plastic housing, its obvious how to change the mileage.

if you want, pm me and ill do a quick guide over the weekend,
