Hi

Ive got a 1990 1275 cooper and was wanting to update and improve the carb. So the first thing i thought of doin was getting rid of the normal air box and fitting a K&N filter. When i was reading about them I came across a stub stacks.
what I wanted to know is what they do, and if they improve the performance, aaand do they fit between or inside the K&N conical filters??

heres the filter...

and the stub stack
http://www.minispare...=...B STACK 1.5

can any one help/advise??

thanks

Filter makes you faster,

Stub stack shuts it the hell up slightly.

For more details see Bungle's post.

stub stacks help to improve the airflow into the carb, thus improving performance slightly, im not sure how theyll work with a k&n though.

I run short ones on my carbs and use filter socks.

I doubt you'll ever notice the improvement but that's not to say it isn't there ;)

Every little helps!

Not sure about those ones, but decent ones should help. I'm planning to find out in a few weeks when i have my car re-tuned i'll be getting them to compare without and with some that i've had made to fit in my K&N cone filters.

stub stacks help aid airflow like stated above. when air enters the carb it goes through the filter into the mouth of the carb.. only problem is that air doesnt like sharp edges it prefers smooth radii. vizards done a helll of alot of research into the lenght and shape of stub stack for most carbs so id sugeest fitting one.

Stub stacks are good, longer ones give more torque I think, but the longer it is, you will probably need a longer air filter to give enough flow.

Since Tuning BL's A-Series Engine will set you back more than the stub stack I'll tell you that a stub stack is worth 5-6% better airflow over a bare carb, that's better than any ram pipe.

The book is well worth the money all the same.
