Model:AUSTIN MINI 1275 CITY E
Year:1986
Description of problem :Hello everyone my mini keeps cutting out when she is cuming to a stop and the only way to stop it cutting out is to pull the choke out at every junction and roundabout any ideas what could be wrong with it

Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem?

Sounds like its a fuelling/mixture issue. Has the car been tuned recently? If not, check what colour the spark plugs are.

If theyre black and sooty, it would indicate your car is running too rich. If it's running too lean there'll be a white-ish coating I believe (although don't quote me on that!).

Also might be worth checking the timing if you have a stroboscopic timing light.

Your suggestion of it running lean might of ansewered your question, pulling out the choke richens the mixture, so the mixture would be my first point of call, then check ignition timing which could be causing your running on, that or the engine needs de-coking.

Mine did this once, sooo annyoingg!
what i did was clean the plugs, clean the air filter and there was some dirt in one of the pipes leading to the fuel pot by the carb so i had to pull the pipe off and lid off and blow down the tube, if this is the case, get a fuel filter then this will never happen again :(

I did de-coke the engine about 200 miles ago when i changed the head gasket, i think that the carb and timing has been played with to compensate for a blowing head gasket and the amount of carbon build up. I do think that it is the idle mixture and timing that needs adjusting.

I do no what i am doing with engines and carbs just motorbike ones lol cars are all new to me ;-}

I suggest you treat your car do a decent rolling road tune. That way it will be properly set up and should hopefully cure your problem...

Cheers

Tom
