Hey guys i have posted this on the 106 forum also but thought i'd spread the love on here too - hope tha no one minds and if someone can help. Basically after bumping sideways into the snow a month ago or so i have had endless problems with our 106 quiksilver.

firstly, after realising that i had bent the wishbone I simply replaced it with a brand new kit. then a week later i noticed a constant grinding that grew worse every time the wheel was leant on during left hand corners. so after getting the brakes changed by kwikfit (the same week) i was told that the drive shaft had a slight buckle......and so i got them to change that aswell as the brakes etc. however the grinding didnt go away and later found out it is likely that the wheel bearing had gone also (why i wasnt told this before baffles me). so being the weekend i decided to get my hands dirty and change the bearing for a brand new one. Success, bearing installed and the grinding stopped..................But, a few weeks later (being today) i can hear a constant dull, but sharp knocking (almost with a slight grind to it also) coming from the same wheel. i phoned kwikfit and asked them to check their records as to what they actually replaced a few weeks ago - and they said it was brakes and JUST the drive shaft. I asked them if they replaced thew cv joint with the shaft as one kit but they said they hadnt.

So my big question is...could this knocking be from the old cv joint (even in a straight line and when turning left and leaning on that particular wheel (but not turning right))? also could a worn cv joint lead to damage elsewhere such as the bearing again?? - because im really not up for changing that for te second time. can i buy cv joints seperately??

Finally, i have noticed that when i drop the clutch the car doesnt roll that freely to what im sure it used to, its almost as if my tyres are low (but they're fine??!!!?? :S) and also (i dont know if its my imagination or the road itself, but it almost feels like the car is very very very mildly 'kangerooing' back and forth.

Lots of questions this morning. Many thanks

Dan

not strictly true.

normally when you buy a driveshaft and it is an exchange item it has both joints on it as well - but to be honest kwik-fit are not a garage in the old school sense.

have you checked the gearbox has enough oil in it?

also if you whacked it hard enough to bend the shaft and the arm have you had it 4 wheel aligned since as something else could still be bent causing other issues.

when i replaced the bearing there was a little oil that spilt onto the ground from where the shaft had been pulled too much, but i pushed the shaft back in before too much got out. it was probably about half a coffee cup full.

i havent had a 4 wheel alignment done though. to be honest it steers perfectly straight so i thought i may have got away with it in that sense. the wheel hit the curb exactly side on.

Well It must be the part they did not fit.And another wheel bearing if needed also some oil to top up.
On those problems on a mates rover it was the joint .
Sure the Team will post you later with good advice.

As i said kwik fit aren't really trained mechanics in the way i would want them to be!! It is probably more a case of they don't know what they fitted!!

I would just checked everythign is tight and then get it 4 wheel aligned - it may drive straight but as you hit the kerb side on it may well have hidden damage. How do the wheels sit?
