Hi,

i am an 18 yr old lad and in love with the idea of having a motorbike engine in a mini. i have been lookin around the net and found various companies who will give you the kit for around £5,000. i have a few questions on this idea..

firstly, do these companies actually fit the kit for you or can they? and at what cost? my dad would no doubt help me fitting the kit but i would want it fitted quickly and do not know how long it would take so i am looking for the company to fit it for me.

now, i understand they are mostly used for track day cars and the occasional use. but i am looking to be using it as an everyday car? so can these be used like this or isit just not going to happen?

i am planning to save up the funds for this this time next year so i will then be 19 yrs old, the last point but probably the most important.. how do you go about getting these mini's insured for road use? as i said i will be 19yrs old with (touch wood) 2 yrs no claims but unfortunatly have 3 points on my licence. Now how much will i be looking to pay for insurance on one of these? i understand that this question is a shot in the dark but thought id post it anyway?

any help will be great!

Tom :)

Z cars and Pro-motive can do drive in drive out conversions - pro-mo in the region of £7000.00, z cars may be 3 times that much.

everyday use is feasible, but not advised - noise levels are high, unwanted attention is problematic, and they are very high maintenance.

insurance for a 19 year old is going to be astounding and may be your big stumbling block.

good luck though - highly recommended for fun :)

1000cc yes - but very highly modified and in the region of 160 - 175 BHP

I'd guess your insurance would be in the region of £3500.00 - based upon a lady friend of a similar age to you, with no points just been quoted £1700.00 on a factory standard KA. :)

get a quote from peformance direct - thats who insures mine :o

haha i see your point, are there any other companies that do this? you can exactly go compare on the net haha.. i was hoping they would only look at the engine size.. 3,500 is a mountain to pay..

how much would the all round cost be to get a road legal one? i would obviously need one with a reverse gear.. i am not botherd about the noise as im sure like everyone it would be music to my ears but i dont think the missus would be to impressed haha..

i wouldnt mind it a little different aswel by doing it with a mini clubman instead of a cooper does this make any difference as they have a bigger engine bay?
