I have a problem with the brake and clutch pedals in my mini minus.
i believe the car was put together using the parts from a 1975 mini 1000
the problem is this, the pedals seem stiff to move and when pressing one of them the other one moves at the same time. plus once pressed down they wont return back up . ive had a very quick look at them and the springs seems to be ok. could it just need a good DW40 soaking?
one other thing, the nut (1/2"?) that is on the end of the pedal box (where the pedals pivot) doesnt help by tightening. in fact it makes the problem worse when tight.
any ideas what to do?

it could be that the bolt is so tight, that it is sandwiching the two pedals together. try loosening it a bit, and see if that remedies the problem

no its not that, that nut/bolt can be loosened to the point where the nut is no longer in contact with the pedal box. makes no difference.it could be that the bolt is so tight, that it is sandwiching the two pedals together. try loosening it a bit, and see if that remedies the problem

I had this with my old clubman, basically the pedal arms start to sieze onto the shaft the pedals pivot on, you can soak repeatedly with wd40 and see if it works, once free get aerosol grease to make the freedom last, if you want a proper job, take the spindle out clean down with wire wool and grease it up and maybe replace any bushes. You may need the assistence of a contortionist to get the pedal spindle out though!
