Hi all

New to the forum, partner's just bought a very nice 1998 Cooper sportspack in red. Was wondering what garages in South Wales are best to take it for a full service? And what sort of price would I be looking to pay for a full service?

Reluctant to take it to any old garage as I'd prefer to take it to someone who knows exactly what they are doing with Mini's.

Based in Beddau, Pontypridd.

Will post up pictures soon!

Cheers!
Alex

hi mate, welcome to the mini world!! with regards to servicing cars i would do it yourself, if you really don't want to then by all means you should take it to a garage but garages charge an arm and a leg for a full service but if you buy all the parts e.g spark plugs, oil and oil filter air filter etc you can do it for less than £30. most garages charge between £100 - £150 for a full service. and buy a Haynes manual it will help you if your not mechanically minded.
also if you find yourself stuck ask a question in the technical section of this forum someone is almost always online to help.

good luck.

A good bet is having an ask on South Wales Minis. I was looking for a garage near Llantrisant to give my Mini a going over a year or so back, and didn't find most garages very forthcoming. Although to be fair, they are a bit of a pain to work on!

Saying that, changing the oil, filters, plugs, leads, coolant and adjusting the drums, aren't hard jobs in the slightest, and if you get yourself a Haynes manual a novice can do them all.

Not tried them myself, but I've heard good things said about'Monaco Garage', Ty-Glas, Chiltern Close, Llanishen, CARDIFF, CF14 5DL. Tel:- 029 2076 3566 (I've heard you should ask for Lynn Elliot but Lesley (one of the owners) is or was restoring a 1968 Mini Cooper for road rallies).

As for the Llantrisant area, well just keep away from STC so called engine and gearbox specialists, because specialists they aren't.

Apart from that I agree if it's a straightforward service, then the aid of a Mini Haynes manual and one or other of these books will help: -

This one in particular helped me to effectively service my own Mini: -
