The problem with this is I'm not getting the chance to get it tight before one of the bolts strips off... Hmm... I'll have a look in the morning...

Are you using the right bolts for the flywheel? There are 2 types of thread for verto and pre-verto flywheels, make sure the threads are fully home.

I forgot to take mine out when i did mine, lol.

I did that once to. You can turn bend a thrust washer quite a bit with a puller and a length of scaffolding. >_<

It's not budging... I've used two pullers now and stripped them both...

even my grandad's stumped and he's an ex-mechanic...

I've had one of the bolts shear... Now I have to extract that from the flywheel and then try again. :)

Sounds like there could be an issue with the threads in the flywheel if it keeps stripping bolts before you even get them tight!!

Can you have a look to see if the threads are ok - maybe even run a tap up them to clean them up?

Which bolts are pulling out, and what do the threads look like on them when they have

if the threads are being stripped because of the force being applied to the puller the flywheel could be welded onto the crank, which is going to need cutting off, both crank and flywheel center are scrap.

You need to find out which bit is the problem causing the bolts to strip the threads. The botl threads on the Verto flywheel are a common metric thread so you should be able to get some decent 12.9 grade socket head bolts, perhaps the next size up, then drill and tap the flywheel center.

Ask yourself this, is it the bolt threads or the flywheel center threads that have been stripped?, answere that and you can then move forward :P

Just a thought - you are putting the bolts onto the flywheel first, then tightening the big centre bolt last arnt you? If you do it the other way around I can see it stripping the bolts.

I'm putting the smaller ones in first yeah and then tightening the big centre one after. When they strip its as though the flywheel has slipped over every thread on the bolt, making it almost smooth and very shiny. The flywheel threads seem okay and the bits of bolt thread are coming out fine.

Going to try and get some better quality bolts if I can this week.

It's off... housing's broken and the threads on the flywheel are dead :D

At least it's done and you've got a nice excuse to get a nice lightweight flywheel  How's the crank? Make sure you lap the centre boss on nicely when you get a new one :D It'll come off a lot easier next time

I'd talked myself into a flywheel when it stripped three weeks ago! ha, havn't had a look at the crank yet, going to get on it after work tomorrow :(
