Hi i would greatly appreciate any help,

I have just dusted off my mini from about 6 or so years storage. Its a 1979 850cc with a stage 1 kit and was completely rebuilt & sprayed about 8 years ago.

The previously new battery has been fully charged (but now might be nackerd), the leads and sparks replaced and towed down the road to free it up. But all i am getting is a knocking noise and i am wondering if the starter motor has had it?

I did recently install electronic ignition and i am not sure if this has something to do with it? I should of waited until it was going until i messed with electronic ignition but it looked easy to install and i was impatient. The solenoid was replaced and coil seems fine but i just cant think of why it wont start?

The old petrol has been taken out and the lines cleaned with new petrol put in but still no joy :( ...

Just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to why i just get a knocking noise?

Check the plug leads are all on the right way. If they're on the wrong plugs, that would give you a knocking noise, firing in the wrong order.

Get a decent battery with some jump leads, connect the positive to where the power cable goes on the starter, then connect the negative to a head stud or similar (a decent earth). If the motor spins over the starter should be ok.

I literally had this problem today! I tried the above and it didn't turn over...horsed a new starter in there n bobs yer uncle!

Should i disconnect the battery on the mini then put a seperate battery to the starter motor?

Would've thought you could leave it connected, but I disconnected mine just to be safe...
