Hi, I have a 98 sportspack, which does not appear to be charging correctly, the ignition light goes off when started but whilst driving the voltmeter appears to drop towards the red, regardless of engine revs, if the car is stationary with engine running, needle goes back to 13v, even stationary with engine revving does not go above this position, with a dvm measured across the battery it does not read more than about 13.4v, have swapped the regulator from my 216, but still the same, am thinking faulty rectifiers but would this not cause battery drain?? any help much appreciated..
Check the cables that go to alternator and also the connections on the Starter motor. The Mpi is well bad for these point rusting and causing issues.
Done it with my cooper.

have just checked the circuit diags, pinned as mini pdf guides, and they show alternator w/light switch, could anyone enlighten me???

Thanks mkvweb, was indeed poor corroded connection on starter motor, guess movement of engine whilst driving, dislodged broken wire which re-made when stationery.

Make sure you grease up the nut on the starter motor, this will prevent it rusting as quikc in the future.
