I wanted to let you know that today is the last chance to sign the fuel duty petition on the Prime Minister's website to reverse the sneaky 2p fuel tax rise that came in January.

Nearly 100,000 people have already signed the petition to get the tax rise reversed.

We only have until lunchtime tomorrow (12th March) to let the government know that fuel tax rises like this are the last thing that our country needs in a recession.

you cant stop these people from bending us over. there is a bonus to be had for the top brass remember. i cant see Cameron changing much either.

Precisely. Even if they did reverse the fuel price increases they'll shaft you in some other way. Remember a couple of years ago, the government ruled that anyone under 4'10" had to use a booster seat in the car? Fines for those who didn't? Where's that law gone? They made their money off that, and now it's forgotten.

It only applied to the age of 12, so if you were only 4' tall but you were 13 you didnt need one but if you were 12 you did which made it kind of pointless

Yep, so it had no grounding in safety whatsoever. All the parents with kids at my school, 12 and under, had to buy seats. My parents had to on a count of my little brother, it cost them £40, and after a couple of months the police stopped bothering to enforce the law.

I bet someone in the child seat business, with some power in politics, made a lot of money from that daylight robbery.

for the amount of effort that goes into getting fuel from under the ground to your car is 2p really that bad?
after all the tax on petrol is massive,

Yep, 2p is bugger all at the end of the day.
But 2p on every litre really adds up.
So yeah, I'd say 2p is a lot, and it feels like a lot more during a recession.
And that 2p isn't going to the people that drill it out the ground so you're argument is pretty much invalid.
Plus, the tax on petrol is what this thread is about.

what really needs to happen is all the lorry drivers delivering the stuff to go on strike and block all the motorways.

that alone would bring the country to a grinding halt. hard not to notice that!

We already pay the highest levels of tax on petrol in Europe...plus, who thinks its fair that petrol prices are rising, no one is getting pay rises, and yet MP's are going to get an extra £1000 a year in wages? Seriously, Britain is long due for a revolution.
