hi guys,

Attached File  alternator_wire.JPG   34.84K   16 downloads

this is a picture of my 45 amp alternator ive just tok off my mini due to bearings gone and casing got a crack in. bought a new uprated A127 70 amp one from minispares but on closer inspection it has not got a little black box thing on it which connects to a spade on the back. Does anyone know what the black thing is and can i just swap it from my 45 amp or are there different ones for different amp alternators? if so anyone know a part number as i cant find these on any minispares websites....
cheers
chris

It's an interference supressor.

Looks like a supressor, it's usually fitted to stop the radio picking up "interferance". I'd fit the new one and see if your radio works without crackling. Hav'nt had to fit a supressor to an alternator for years, either new alternators have them built in or the radios are getting better.

yeh what the above have said just a supressor
just see how it goes with the stereo for the time being and if it gets bad
im sure thats a supressor type thing you can wire into the system which will supress interference
but don't hold me to that as i could be wrong
