Also a strange South African variation was a round nose mini front mated to an Elf/Hornet rear, not sure what this was called though.

Hahaha you could always fix a GIANT umbrela over the mini and drive with the sunroof open even in rainy weather ;)

My mini do have a vinyl roof(huge sunroof) and 1098cc engin

South African minis were never built with 1000, (998cc), engines.

The base engine was the 1100, (1098cc), which was fitted to the round front 'De Luxe' and the Clubman.

The only other engine used was the 1275 which was only fitted to the 'GTS' and the '1275E' which were both Clubmans.

Like said before, I think that the badge is not original. I would say that your mini is a 'De Luxe'

Also a strange South African variation was a round nose mini front mated to an Elf/Hornet rear, not sure what this was called though.

The Mini MK3 I believe. (There is an advert for it somewhere on this site: - http://www.aronline.co.uk/)

Plus prior to that they had a Mini with a Wolseley Hornet front end and standard Mini rear and that was called the 'Wolseley 1000'.

Just why haven't these fantastic and rare overseas models been researched via the Mini Magz?

You'll find all you need to know on this site: -

Click Me

Just click 'AR Cars', then 'Mini' and then 'International Flavours' from the drop down list.

You'll be amazed how much South African Mini information is there.

Just to confuse matter more (nothing to do with South African built Minis though). There was a Belgian built Mini Limited Edition that I believe used similar badges as the 1979 Mini Special Edition and had a 1100 engine. But the spec was closer to the Mini 1275GT set-up.

But I've also heard that the BL plant at Seneffe used to send Minis over to the UK whenever Longbridge was out on strike (so quite often then as it happens): -

There was a Mini Clubman 1275E that had a 1275cc engine, Mini City E body decals and drum brakes all round.

No problem, it's amazing how much information is out there on the net but it's just finding it that's the problem. That's why I keep everything bookmarked.

Yes I tried googeling south africa mini in every way I could think of . I saw on some of the links you put in that its minisa.co.uk or other co.uk links that provided me with information. If your looking for something made in your own country you dont think of links in other countrys
