Model: 1000
Year: 1979
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible): Last weekend I changed my engine and subframe, from a 998 auto, to a 1275 standard. Not thinking ahead, I didn't take pictures of how things were connected, before I started disconnecting them. I was wondering if it would be possible for someone to take the grill of their car, and take pictures of the electrical connections that are in that area, stuff like the ignition coil, and starter, and things like that, in the front of the engine.

hi mate

cant take any pictures at the moment, however colour should be able to help you...

check all terminals and make sure they are in good condition, also check the loom for any signs of chaffing, which if left could cause a short circuit...

White/black - coil negative (also the same wire exits the loom further down to reconnect to dizzy black wire)
white - coil positive
white/brown - oil pressure switch
green/blue - water temperature sender
brown - alternator charge lead (x2)
brown/yellow - charge warning lamp lead

headlights / indicators

blue/white - flasher/mainbeam supply
blue/red - dipped beam supply
red - side lights supply
black - negative

green/red - nearside indicator switched supply
green/white - offside indicator switched supply

starter/charging

depending upon the year of the 1275 engine you may need to make some modifications to the loom.

if your old engine was the cars original engine and providing the loom is original too, the starter solenoid will be mounted on the inner offside wing. if the 1275 is a later engine the solenoid will be mounted on the top of the starter motor. unfortunatly you cannot interchange starter motors on different age engines as the teeth on the flywheel ring gear are slightly different...

let me know what age the 1275 is and if you need to modify the starting/charging section of the loom i can help.

hope this makes it easier for you.

i am not sure as to what year the 1275 engine is, as i got it from a friend who got it from another friend who got it from somewhere. from what i can tell, it looks to be an older engine, as it looks very similar to my original engine. the colors help somewhat, but not too much, as my wires are dirty and lost their color, also i dont know minis, and dont know which posts are positive and negative on the coil and stuff. so if anyone could get a picture, it would be very helpful.

I can put up a couple of pictures but you really need to do the same?

Snap away and post them up on here from every angle and close up of certain electrical components

The coil will be marked +ve and -ve - clean it! Same for the wires - clean them with white spirit, something like that!

so i went and worked on the mini today. i managed to get most of the wires connected, but was still unsure of somethings.

where does this wire go?

is this purple and black wire the horn?

i think this black cable is the heater, but how is it routed?

and this yellow one?

and finally, this attaches to what i assume is the starter. however, the eyelet is too small to slip over the post. is this because it came off a 998 auto, and this engine is a 1275 standard?
