basically i have stripped out the interior of my mini and i am down to the metal! i would like to smooth it all down and have no carpets but i dont really know where to start apart from cleaning it and sanding it down! what would i need to do after this? primer? rustproof? waxoyl? bearing in mind i want the inside the same colour as the outside!

Rust proof, etch prime, prime and then top coat. Bare in mind though if you are going to have a pure painted finish on the floor pan then it will mark especially where your feet rest.

Maybe think about a clear plastic coating to protect your paint, we use a product called Mylar in the Aviation industry as a water barrier which may be suitable.
