Here are some shots of my 4 synchro gearbox. The other diff studs are OK. Looks like a case over overtightening or stress.

What would you do? Can it be repaired? Do I need to look for another case?

Feedback would be appreciated.

personally i'd look for a new just for the reassurance

It's not going to be easy to find a replacement remote gear case though...... a last resort is to get it welded and machined back, not ideal and potentially a little expensive

Thats right on the face that is lined bored for the diff housing? Awkward to weld a re-machine.


Is it a 1128 case?

Remotes are not hard to find if you know where to look...

If there is enough material ( I thinks soo), drill out the exsisting thread and go a bit deeper into the casting and make a new thread there below the crack level. Have a spec bolt made on a lathe, and this may work right. Especialy as theese castings could withstand much more power (130+ BHP) if they are 100% healthy. why not holding the 55 if only 90% ok .

Although the bast way to go is to find a perfect housing as told before.

It looks like its been like that for years (quite possibly since new!) and its not a highly stressed area - can't see it moving when its all bolted back together so if another casing isn't readily available (and they probably are not in NZ), I'd reuse it.
