Hole In The Block

just been checking my 1275 a series block over before i send it to the engine shop for a rebore etc etc, but ive found a hole in the block which doesnt look like its part of the casting. is a normal thing or is the block scrap?

Yep...... it's normal for some A series blocks, not recomended for serious BHP or RPM though

what sort of bhp/rpm would be a recomended limit?my long term plan is to add a supercharger, stage 3/4 head get to around 100bhp. i dont intend to go over 7000rpm
but to start with its just going to be a basic 1293 with 270 cam.

You can get 100bhp quite easily without a supercharger!

Has any one heard of one of these blocks with the hole over the center main bearing, failing? It will be fine

as Sprocket says dont worry about it,
In fact i'm running one of these blocks in my turbo lump, I just smoothed the edges out with a grindstone and file.

They do tend to crack through - and then the centre main is not supported anymore! It will be fine with your initial plans - but I would search out a later block for the BIG plans!
