You can buy a plate to mount it under that dash rail on ebay clicky

But I mounted mine into the center console, obviously that won't work if you dont have one.

As for wiring, I didn't want to tap into something by mistake (like an air bag), and I planned on running quite a few things at once, fan, sat nav, phone charger, laptop charger and very occasionally a mini fridge in the boot.
So I took a positive using heavy wiring from the starter and use a switched live to activte a relay, was simple really, I just used slicing crimps and they're much neater than tape!

Thanks that ebay one is more neater then one i have from maplns but bought it now lol will make a plate for it might even make a plate for 2!

I see I will need to look at wiring once i get mini and study hayned wiring diagram to!

The Minifinity guide is a good guide but to me 35A through one of those small sockets seems far too much. I melted them by just pulling 15/20A before.

I have fused mine at 15A (the same as most modern cars) and wired it with 2mm2 cable (give you a bit of overhead to do something with then).

Dave.

I see using say 20 amp cable and 15 amp fuse did you still wire it to the starter? what do you mean by overhead?

EDIT: just looked at spec of socket i got from maplins and that says its rated at 16 amps so guess if i wired it to starter as minifinity it will melt! I notice they used some sort of metal
one mine being plastic cased! doh!

i used 20amp wire i think might of been abit higher, and run a 15 or 17amp fuse, can't remember that either

but basically wired it straight from the starter motor.
also make sure you DO wire in an inline fuse of decent quality

clicky

the most useful stuff is towards the end, but it gives you a few better pictures than the minifinity one does

Thanks great pictures now know where to add terminal on starter motor, but now dont know whether to go 42amp or 20 amp wire! what fuse rating did use ?

blade fuses im looking at below, if i say had 42 amp cable i would want fuse to blow at 30 amp, but does the fusing in table below means its blows at 30 or 60 amps?

Ref Continuous Fusing Colour Enter quantity

FB25 25amps 50amps White
FB30 30amps 60amps Lt.Green

im running 20amp wire with what i think is a 15amp fuse (haven't looked in a while)
but im using a glass type fuse the cylinder shape one.

mine is sufficient to power my cb radio, charge my satnav and phone (not all at once) but it does it no problem.

also i was told to go with the 20amp as 42amp would be a bit excessive for a cigi lighter.

I see, i liked blade inline fuse holder as can get them with a rubber cover etc

Well if it works on yours should do on mine lol! so will get 20amp!

yeh but aren't blade fuses rated differently to glass type fuses?

Thats where im confused as on site im looking at the fuse has a continuous rating and a fusing rating so which one does it actually blow at!!

Probably a bit late this reply but oh well. When I say overhead I'm referring to excess capacity in the cable, 2mm cable can take 25A max. It's still wired to the starter as it provides a good clean permanent supply.

Blade fuses are rated by their continuous loadings, glass fuses by their maximum loading. You would want a 15A blade fuse, their supposed to blow at 30A peak but it varies (for example it will blow with a constant 20A load, but will take a full 30A for a fraction of a second). To wire it to the starter I always use a ring connector, add a cable for your Head Unit while your at it too.

Dave.

I havent got mini yet lol until tommorow so not to late thanks!
I see I got 25amp cable for this 12v socket and to wire in a coil switch immobiliser, so hope this be ok for both jobs!
I see in end the i got glass inline fuse holders with 15amp fuses so would this be ok for both 12v socket and the permanent live + feed to head unit? and put a inline fuse on both feeds?
I guess can use a fuse on coil immobiliser to sure cant do any harm!!!
