I know this is a silly question but I can't seem to find out how to remove the live from the battery to get it out and charge it up.
Any help would be much grateful as I'm stuck atthe moment!!

The neutral has a but but the live doesn't and the wires foes intothe body of the car under the rear seat. I don't know what to do really?

I'm not sure I understand the issue.

It is generally considered safest to first remove the earth cable from the battery, then remove the hot terminal. By removing the earth cable first you insure that should the wrench contact the car body for either cable there will be no arcing or sparking.

If the problem is how to get the cable "off" the battery terminal, loosen the bolt in the battery clamp until it could be removed. Then insert a screwdriver in the clamp's split section and pry it open a bit if necessary until you can lift the cable off the terminal.

Originally the positive was screwed into the top of the battery terminal. So unless you battery cable has been modified to accept a clamp type end, it should just pull off having removed the screw. Might take some encouragement.

Make sure you've disconnected and isolated the earth strap before doing anything though!

Now I'm really confused. Are you trying to remove the cable from the battery or the cable from the car?

Put a picture up, if you have the negative off then do the same thing you did to get that off. It should be realy easy unless you have something really different going on

Make sure the battery well is nice and dry. There should be a drainage hole in the bottom, so make sure it's not blocked.

Then buy a can or two of Waxoyl (available from most good motor factors, oh and Halfords) and coat the battery well bottom and sides with Waxoyl prior to refitting the battery.

That way it'll help prolong the life of the battery well and drive out any moisture.

It's also worth coating the batter terminals in some petroleum jelly (Vaseline) before you refit the clamps.
