Hey,

First post in a while, but is anyone here with Direct Line insurance?

I only ask as my upcoming renewal for april they've added £175 to my insurance costs, i'm 26, never had an accident etc etc.

Wondered if anyone had seen rises like that with em?

Also whos the best to go with, to give u an indication i was payin £401 all said and done before.

seems few other people have experience this with other companies and the only thing to explain it
is most likely an increase in the premiums which will effect all drivers no matter what

I am at the mo (but because they don't do agreed value insurance I'll be changing company when my insurance policy expires soon.)

They did exactly the same thing to me last year (when I was insuring a different mini, the value of which was not as much in need of an agreed value). I phoned around and got a load of quotes from other insurance companies, then phoned them back to cancel. Miraculously they managed to drop my premium quite a lot once I tried to cancel, and we came to a happier quote so I stuck with them for this year. Hope that helps - it's a bit of a faf having to get some other quotes, but it did work and they did beat the other quotes I'd been given in the end.

PS. In the past they were pretty good when I needed them - a few years ago someone drove into my mini while parked (grrr) and DirectLine did value her quite accurately I would say. They checked out mini magazines and stuff to come a figure.

I am, mines going down actually. I'm on my dads as a learner at the minute for £800 but its going to go down to £750 oddly when i pass. Im 18 now but i was 17 when i got the first policy which could be the reason for the decrease :)

Hi,

I had the same problem as you. I was with Direct Line until this month. I'm 26 with 6 years NCB and my premium went up by around £80 for no reason. I don't have any points etc.. and neither does by girlfriend. We've just moved to Admiral Multi-Car and I am now paying £200 fully-comp for Mini Cooper MPI and £280 fully-comp for Peugeot 206 GTI. We can both drive either car and we both earn no claims discount.

I also saw my motorbike insurance with the AA go up by £60 to £460 despite having 4 years NCB. I shopped around and got it for £180 fully-comp with Adrian flux and the bike is 1 year old worth £6K.

I don't have an explanation for the increases but it does seem that most of these companies aren't interested in keeping long term customers. None of them were willing to adjust their prices to match their competitors so I moved companies. I even moved away from the AA break down service after 6 years to the RAC because their new member price was £40 cheaper than my AA renewal.

Try Adrian Flux for your mini or HIC depending on the age. If it's 15+ HIC might be able to do you a good classic policy.

seems like it, i was at bingley in feb i think and i was on my way out and this women said would you like a quote i said ok.

she said what car, i laughed and went mini.

she said i guessed.

then a few questions.

thats 3rd party, only me on the qoute so ill go fully comp when i add my dad with his 20 years NCB. then she said standard or preimum breakdown i think. i said what standard and how much it cost. she said its free and its fully europe.

i said give me the quote ill take it when it comes up.

From may partner being insure with direct line and others i know of the seem to offer a good 1st year price then bump it up next year always!
this year it was over 200 more compared to 1st year for her!

Same with AA to they keep thinking im going to pay £50+ for roadside when they offer it to new customers for £28, every year phone up and get it for
about £32 so why dont they just reward loyal customers!!

A little update in case this will prove useful for people.

Just phoned Direct Line to find out what all my excesses are/years no claims etc ready to get some new agreed value quotes and they've told me this:

Direct Line won't be dealing with cars with any modifications anymore.

I think if you have an existing policy they honour it, (and I think renew it too) but they won't be taking on any new customers with modifications on their cars
