Got a mini clubman. Its got a honda engine in, it produces quite a bit of heat under the bonnet, driving hard in the summer cause the servo and brakes to over heat and cause the brakes to fail. I lifed the back of the bonnet which cured the problem. So it is a under bonnet heat issue. I want a bonnet vent as lifting the back of the bonnet makes the car less standard looking.
Does anyone have a picture of a clubman with an era bonnet vent/bulge? Want something subtle and not barry boy looking. Cheers

Yeah seen the one on Abs motorsport but just can't imagine it on the clubman so was hoping someone might have a picture of one on a clubbie

that sounds a little wierd actualy! surely the engine isnt producing that much head close enough to the servo master cylinder its heating up the fluid within?

when you say the brakes fail your talking about brake fade? because i would imagin the brakes would produce alot higher temperatures quicker into the fluid than the engine.

There is no brakes when it gets hot under the bonnet and the servo is very hot. Have changed the brake fluid but still. If I have the back of the bonnet up I never have a problem. So I see the problem as the heat under the bonnet not escaping. So I'm thinking the era vent will help and hopefully still look standardish but cant visualize it on a clubbie.

It's probably due to the radiator positioning on the B16 and D16 conversion - it has to sit way over to the drivers side of the car - right in front of the servo, which was always designed to be about as far away from the rad as it can get it a Mini. Sorry I can't help with pictures but the VTEC install looks very neat & tidy!

my rad is the whole of the front. Custom one in the grill space so most of the air comes through the rad. Just cold air comes from under the number plate vents.

Just a thought but i saw a clubby with the recesses in the front of the bonnet cut out and replaced with black mesh. I think they also had 2 long 1" wide strips cut out at the back of the bonnet, also filled with black mesh but of a dense type so from most angles you couldnt see it.

This should allow a cold air flow across the top of the engine, and will probablyaid the flow of air to your throttle body

Have you tried decent silicone race fluid? Something like THIS Also, you can get carbon fibre ERA scoops, which would look good on a black bonnet..

Shouldn't think the expansion tank next to the servo and the coolant pipe draped across the fluid resovior is helping.

Have you considered re-positioning it or thinking about a radiator with a expansion bottle mounted on the side?

Nice engine instalation , very tidy looking.

I use dot 5.1 so a bit higher boiling point.
Moving the expansion tank, where is there space, and going smaller would reduce the amount of water in the coolant system. So I think I just need more air flow in the engine area but want the minimuim cutting.

Not heard of this before but I see what your ob about. I love your rad design. I was looking at something like this but couldn't afford to get a custom one made and fit as I'm using a standard roundnose. You still have all original looking inner wings which will keep alot of the heat in. Try putting some more vents in there to aid getting as much air in the bay as poss. Could also try a small venturi style scoop at the front just under the valance that ducts air up into your bay more than normal. I'm thinking about something like this for getting more air to my rad as it's well up behind my drivers light.
