Hi!
Perhaps I'm being a bit thick here, but there's a problem somewhere on my MPi and I can't find it. Any advice would be appreciated!
Ok here goes.
First of all, my mpi died whilst driving - no electric at all. The lights went dimmer and dimmer, everything electrical packed in and the car died. The battery wasn't especially flat however, so I figured it must be the alternator. After being recovered (oh the shame!) I tested the battery, and it's fine.
However, when I tried to start it with a different battery, it fired up quite happily, but the red battery warning light came on and stayed on.
I then replaced the alternator with the correct 65A as recommended for the MPi, and fully charged up the battery.
On starting the car after these replacements - the battery warning light is still on.
I've checked the earth, but still the light remains. Any ideas or advice would be appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

My bets are the charging cable from the alternator to the Starter is coroded.
If you look at the starter, and follow the cable that goes to the alternator that is the one.
If you strip back the rubber sheath from the cable , you will see a connector. Any money its covered in a whiteish powder.... eg corosion.
Strip the bad bit, refit a new connector end... Bingo
If you want to confirm this before you do it, Use a multi meter on the battery before starting. The battery should be 11ish volts.
When the car is running it should be 14.4, if its any less than that I would say its the charge cable (mentioned above) or the alternator. But taking the new alternator out of the equation would only rule out the charge cable.

All sorted now
Thanks Mike - it was the charging cable. I'd had a quick glance in that direction, and all looked well. When I investigated further the cable had actually detatched and hidden itself out of sight. A thorough clean up, and a new connector were all that was needed!
Mpi running perfectly... for now
