a friend of mine wants a lcb manifold i have in the shed. but his car is an spi so it will have a lambda sensor i guess. my lcb is a carb one so won't have this can you just drill a hole and tap it?

the lambda are threaded so the screw into the lcb

He knows this, hes asking if he can create a thread in the lcb for the sensor to screw into

I cant see why not, although im sure a clever clogs will be along to say otherwise.
I would mount the sensor at the bottom so you get a reading from all the pipes, then extend the wiring for the sensor.

Edit,i had a carb LCB sent for my injection cooper by mistake, and the center pipe was totally different to the injection pipe,so even if you tap a hole im unsure if the center pipe will be any good

Im not sure but the lambda sensor on injection LCB's have to be in a curtain place on the pipe so the sensor can take accurate readings, I think I read where curtain LCB's where making injection cars run poorly due to the posistion of the sensors, if you was just running an AFR gauge then you would mount it where you like, but when the ECU relies on it for the correct running of the engine then its more critical.
If it was me I would keep the standard manifold, its a lot better than you think (one of the best manifolds rover made I beleive) I think they are good for up to 100hp!

The ECU only takes a reading from two pipes on the majority of LCBs, LCBs are available with the sensor mounted where the three pipes converge , thus enabling a " true " reading from the exhaust gas. This type is often supplied with an extension to the existing Lambda wiring.

think demon tweeks do a kit just need to drill and weld the manifold or you could sell it to me?
