I finished restoring the underside of my GT a little while ago. I painted it in Hammerite which all looked very nice, until I stone-chipped it in Gravitex and it all reacted up

So I will rip it all off and start again. What would you recommend? Etch primer then stone chip?

Don't want any more reactions as its getting too expensive and incredibly boring

I have recently used a red oxide primer and then stone chipped over it. Seems to have taken ok- in fact the stone chip has taken over crappy oil soaked sills as well and does not appeared to have reacted. I guess time will tell if it is any good but it was what I had to hand. Good Luck

Yeah you can spray it on red oxide or straight over etch primer. I have done both in the past.

Depending on how *rec of the tum* you want to be about the underside of the car but i intend etch primering, prime then topcoat then stone chip. The arches inner wings etc will get topcoated again.

My reasoning is the more layers of protection the better. Hammerite although good does seem to react to certain other products. I will try stone chip over topcoat on a gash bit of metal just to make sure it does not play up.
