Hey all, i was wondering how many of you decided to do away with the headlining all together and go for the super sexy fabric roof. What did it entail?, how long did it take?, and what sort of work am i looking at if say i want to aswell. Thanks very much

i have i used a fabalon stuff took a bit of time done 3 years ago
but i would like to change it now and spend more time on it
it will take two people to do mine is like a red velvet

Not sure what you mean...

Do you mean make it a cabrio / rag top?
Of fit a full length fabric sunroof
Or just change the headlineing for some different fabric?

na, i mean actaully getting rid of the headlining all together, ive seen a few who have just removed the headling and im assuming grinded off the ledges to fit fabric on the actual underside of the roof, it looks soooooo nice and i was just wondering how many of ye good people on styling had done it, and what it was like to do.

I covered my roof in acoutsic cloth, one big piece.

It's easy to do, just get a big enough piece of material and take your time.

hi about 2 hours work went into it but we rushed it so it could do with being redone
the roof is in red and the what i call them the rails from front to back was done in black
the hard bit is to get the join in the middle right
the red and black rolls cost me about £50 pound
my dash and top rail have also been done see picture hope thi helps

yeah i was thinkin about perhaps using acoustic material, does it make a difference? i know the headlining doesnt give much in the way of soundproofing but its something atleast.

oooooooo that looks nice, so you just used 2 seperate pieces? how was it molding around the corners?

Acoustic cloth will be stretchy so ideal for the compound curves in the corners that will present issues with gathering of the material.

Whilst the headlining itself offers very little in the way of sound proofing/insulation, the fact you can bond a decent quantity of deadening/insulation between the liner and the roof makes it worthwhile.


I've done my car with 1.5" thick rebond foam and the difference in resonance when tapped from the outside of the car compared to a normal mini is staggering.

My friend did this on his old 850, ripped it all off and it was, let's say, a noisy experience (fairly echoey as he had no soundproofing, carpets or roof lining).

what sort of acoustic cloth did you use? you dont happen to have a link for a site i might be able to steal do you? also did all of you just use spray glue i presume for the lining?

Which I advise against doing, as they are structural to the roof and form a sort of box section.
