Just a quick question, how are you going to get an MOT.

The emmisions test will still be based on the limits for the injection system which the carb won't be able to achieve. At least its my understanding it won't.

Just read your other topic in the injection section, so guess you've thought about the emmisions side :proud:

my tutor at college said it should be ok he used to tune MGB's so he should know ?

get it rolling roaded and set up right it should be enough to pass the emmissions i hope :proud:

MMMmm

Think the limit for an injection is something like 0.3 % CO

Carb limits depending on age are 3.5% or 4.5 % CO

Are you keeping the CAT ??

MOT emmisions are based on age of car or age of engine depending which is older. In your case its original engine so they will test it as if it was an injection.

I'm sure somebody will put me right if this is wrong. But your best doing somemore homework on this.

No CAT and a carb you won't get near the limits required to pass an MOT emmisions test. Not using the original engine.

I cant think of how you would pass the emissions test with a carb and no cat. Even injection cars with a cat can fail on emissions very easily, as happened to me by about 0.5%.

As far as i'm aware, if you do change to an older engine, you'll need to prove the age of that engine for the MOT. Which i dont have a clue where you'd start on that one.

I went 1340, stage4 head, and kent sports cam. All with the standard ECU and it was a pretty quick mini.

went to carb as the ECU was fried and someone had a field day at chopping all the loom up and i prefer carb.

All i can say then is 'Good Luck' because you'll need it with the MOT man.

Only way i can see you'll pass with that engine in it, is a dodgy MOT bloke or to ring the car as a carb model :proud:

i think the dog drive is the same as a metro dizzy so should be a straight swap but this will need confirming by a guru

dodgy mot and your sorted (but dont take my advice as this is illigal) (or this isnt advice eather but have seen done before put the gas analiser in the exhaust of another more enviromentaly freindly cars exhaust while doing mot)

I mean we passed a golf today that smoked its Ti*s off around 3000RPM or more. But at 2500RPM (which going on REG's we have to test at) it was fine so it some how passed as was within regs but if driven down the road it would have been a street filler with thick blue smoke. was running like poo as well but owner dident want out todo with it. anoys me

So i hardly think converting it to a nice big carb is going to hurt the world.

Yes.

any A+ dizzy will fit the SPI, probably best to try and find a carb cooper or late MG metro electronic to get the right ignition curve.
