So i've been working on this for the past few years thought i would put it up for all the UK people to see as well as the guys back home in aus.

my first mini 1972 998 clubman. got it when i was 15 started doing it up, reworked the engine and painted it. had too much rust in it too be viable to fix up for me so it became a parts car. the shell is sitting in my shed at home and going to be used to rebuild my van

Posted Image

My second mini. and my favorite. the 1969 panel van. had a 1310 had just ordered new wheels for it when i crashed it into the side of a roundabout snapping the front wheel. was written off because of the rust in the sills which i didn't know about having brought the car 10 months before hand. this will get repaired with parts from the clubman and get a roof chop when i get the time to fix it up.

the night i crashed it some people decided it would be fun to smash it up. it ended up looking like this. its now in the shed next to the clubman awaiting repair.
Posted Image

so now i have this. Frog. a 1962 morris 850 that came with a 998 engine that was about to die and needed a few replacement parts. took me 4 months to get it to road worthy replaced

steering rack
all bushes/bumpstops
windscreen
tierods
front brakes (single leading shoes)
speedo
rewired the whole car.

Posted Image

in this photo it looks brilliant. i think it was taken when the old owner got the car. heres the engine bay and you can see how much the paint has faded and the dint behind the headlight from where the old owner ran into her brothers car.
Posted Image

i showed up and had to hot-wire the car to get it running as it had an alarm installed that had stopped working. drove it onto a trailer then to my place where it stayed for quite some time.
Posted Image

Posted Image

from here i drove it back and forth to work for about 2 months before the generator gave out on me. then i took it off the road and decided to do an engine swap and the modifcations started from there.

new 90amp alternator replaces the busted generator as well as a bigger carby.
Posted Image

started on the inside set up some speaker pods as well as a tacho and oil/water guages in the dash. new wooden steering wheel as well

Posted Image

i had the stereo from the van lying around and decided to put that into the car as well

Posted Image

big stereo all up had about 1500w RMS running on this

Posted Image

Posted Image

then i ordered in some shiny new disk brakes 8.4" to go with the new wheels that i had picked up for the van. these were going to go on Frog.

Posted Image

next was a board that covered the speakers so they couldnt be seen from outside the car with a bit of artwork on them

Posted Image

finalised the dash and speakers at this point as well. the best part about all this. not a single extra screw hole was made/drilled for any of it.

Posted Image

so then i started putting on the new wheels and the flares to go with them. i'd had the car up for trade till this point in the hope that i could swap it for something less original/already modified but had no takers.

Posted Image

brakes on. sorry about the bad photos

part 2 since i cant put up that many photos in one hit

showing how far out the new 13*5.5" wheels sit

Posted Image

so flares on and engine changed over for the 1310

Posted Image

i'd also changed from the magic wand gearbox but didnt want to cut a hole in the floor for it so i shortened the linkages to the gearbox and bent up a new gear lever.

Posted Image

next was a new coat of paint. i wanted the car to look nice and original still with a metallic tinge so it is now tiffany green. the flares were fiber-glassed up to blend in with the body

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

looking a bit dirty at the moment but i also installed a fixed bucket seat for a bit more lateral support. made the sub-frame for it simply bolts into the existing mounts

Posted Image

next was a carb upgrade. weber DCOE 45-13

Posted Image

didnt want to cut the fire wall but i had a spare bonnet so decided to lay the carby on top of the engine. heres the computer model of the new inlet

Posted Image

cut the bonnet so now it will look something like this

Posted Image

and here is the manifold all welded up

Posted Image

thats as far as i can show you for now. the carb is mounted and the manifold is set up on the car now and i have to finish welding/repaint the bonnet. hopefully it wont take me as long as it already has. oh and the speakers etc were sold as i like the original interior. i'll eventually reupholster the race seat to try and match it to the rest of the car :D

Cheers

Matt

shame on you doing this to a 62 car.. Buy a '80 mini to do this kinda stuff to as there are less and less of these left.

hope your joking, its all reversable, and at the end of the day - his car - his rules
liking the out of the box thinking on the inlet, any ideas how the fairly tight bend will affect the airflow?

i agree in part with both of the above
its not right messing with an old mk1 however its youre car and youre money so do as you wish
however as you are going to mod a 62 you are now duty bound to make sure its a special car at the end to vindicate yourself
its looking good keep it up

part of my objective on this build is to keep it as reversible as possible. eg very minimal body work. total body mods are as follows

holes for flares 6 on each wheel approx 5mm each - easily filled with any welder, flap disk it back and job done

front guard cut from top edge to under bumper to fit bigger wheels - done with a 1mm cutting disk so minimal loss of metal cut as one piece and left int he boot of the car wrapped in tape, simply bend the seam back down and weld it back in place, flap disk and paint.

change brakes and wheels back

thats all that needs to be done to get it back to original. and of course all the parts are sitting in the shed in case i ever want to sell it or put it back that way.

tried to get it as large as possible. so its got a 3" radius on it. the fuel will want to run to the outside of it so i'll get rich down low lean up high. there is a long straight approach to the ports which should sort it out a bit but if i need to mod it at all i'll put in some grooves to add a bit of turbulence once the air gets around the bend to mix it up again.

see how it goes i guess

Coming together, love the colour, as said above its your car, and you tried to swap it for something less original, shame about your clubby estate. Wheels are unusual, nice to see new things being done.

Shut up, he bought it let him do what he wants to it. Its better than it sitting there rotting away like it would have if he didnt buy it.

It looks good mate. What kind of scumbags would do that to your van? idiots :trooper:

its not your choice, don't start trying to put people down, its a forum where people share THEIR mini and show you how THEY want to let THEIR mini look !

found these when i went back

rock the size of my head and a piece of wood about 4 foot ans 2" square

me posing with the rock that went through the passenger window and into the windscreen

Posted Image

and the 2*2 ish hunk of wood that was used on the back windows

Posted Image

as you can see they also jumped on the roof and caved it in pretty bad. they smashed every single window and kicked in the drivers door as well.

wasn't impressed.
