when replacing my brake pads (8.4), do i need to replace the shims, or do i need them at all?

I ordered a kit including the shims and split pins, (to sweden) to find only one shi was in the pack; now thats annoying.

The anti-squeal shims - made of sticky backed 3M stuff - are to stop the brakes squealing.
You can get the same effect by putting copper grease on the backs on the pads. Note: BACKS of the pads, NOT the friction surface.

yes you do need them, its part of what stops the pads popping out of position.

i've used the old ones in the past but only if they were in good condition.

compare it to the new one, and if it feels alot weaker, i'd chuck it because you dont want it breaking while driving.

if it was minisport, then that'll be enough reason for only receiving one of them :trooper:

Sorry to hear that only 1 shim was in the pack. You should have let us know and we would have sorted it out for you straight away. email me with your details and it will be taken care off.
