my mini has been hit slightly on the left hand side of the boot lid, i know picture's will help so i'll post one up when the car gets home in an hour,

it has rippled/pushed in the lip for the seal about half way down the boot opening, and the rear pannel, it hasn't just gone as far as to affect the left rear light, what is the best was to fix this? the affected area is aprox 10x5 cm

thanks guys

looks like it could almost tap out, then a skim of filler to get out any imperfections. blast with paint and bobs your

I expect it has been stretched but it may well be possible to cut between the light and boot apertures, reshape, then weld back up.

At a 2nd glance it may not be that bad in the boot gutter, but a little cut 'n shut will lose any excess where it is stretched, like a dart in a tailored shirt/blouse..

I guess the light unit was replaced without straightening the panel damage.

I would love to know, it was a little extra present when i bought it, it also has a rather odd dent that runs in a perfectly straight line all the way down the passendger side!

Given that worse case it will need to be cut out and a bit from a donor welded in - id say have a go with just a hammer. Cant see under the light unit though so may not be worth the hassle if its all bend, brackets as well etc.

Few gentle taps to start with from the inside towards the middle of the car and then try to beat the panel backwards after it lines up on the vertical (if that makes any sense, it does in my head)

Yea i understand, it's worth a go, sounds like it might be a precision job for jeremy clarkson! do you think it will be able to regain the proper curve to sit flush with the bootlid without too much filler though?

With time, money, patience and skill, you could get it perfect with no filler. However, if you lack any of those four things then filler will do the job :D

i do believe i lack all four! will have a bash anyway, how much do you recon it would cost to have a donar patch welded in if i fail, i already have a panel sorted just in case!

Couple of hours for a bodyworker, might be worth seeing if panelbeaterpeter or shiftyseamus can give you any advice.

personally id drill a small hole and use a sliding hammer to pull the dent out. if it were the other side ide say knock it out with a hammer and a bit of suitably sized/shaped wood, but thatll mean removing the tank, you will need a skim of filler over it though. shut the lid and make sure the gaps right as you go along...

i would weld a washer in the crease and use a slide hammer to pull it out then grind it up and fill
