i have a very low mileage (11k miles) auto engine and box, its fitted with hardy spicer joints at the diff, what i want to know is, if i take the diff out, will oil pour out? i have drained the oil, but im sure i heard there can be upto a litre of oil left in the box? i just dont want to get oil all over my patio lol

There is a lot more oil in your auto than 1 litre, however this is in the various valves, pistons and the convertor.

The oil pick up pipe is in the diff case area and yes you will get a considerable amount of oil escape when you remove the cover, crack it open a little and drain it slowly in to a pot, so that you don't have the sudden spillage you would get if you simply removed the cover.

WHat are you doing to your auto that requires you remove the diff cover ?

im taking the hardy spicer joints off, for another engine, and just wanted to see how they were attatched, i know thee bolted on, but always good to have a pole around and have a look see the engine will be available if anyones interested once i removed the joints! (good runner, 11k miles only! gearbox is sweet to!)
