Hi, Can someone tell me what is involved in changing the exhaust manifold on an MPi? There is an lcb fitted that I would like to swap out - can this be done without taking the head off to make room and if so can it be done largely from above or do you need to feed it in from below which would imply a high lift ramp is required?

Thanks!

best taking from underneath, i would take off top engine steady so you have bit of leaverage of the block so you can get your hands in there..

as said easier to take from under the car i would say anyway, bit fiddly tho

If it is an LCB, then the "Y" branch will most likely have to come out the top.

Easy job and can be done innthe hour with some swearing involved.

Secure car
disconnect fuel lines from left of engine bay.
Disconnect all wire harness going to inlet manifold
disconnect throttle cable
disconnect vacume hose for brake
undo the 5 1/2 inch bolts holding the inlet and the manifold on.
Remove the inlet manifold and make sure you save/ retreive the alloy collars from the head or inlet manifold.
Jack up front of car.
Remove the bolts from the cat
if you have the standard manifold on the car you will need a long wobble bar with a 1/2 inch socket. If it's a aftermarket lcb. You will need to remove the Y piece. You may need to cut/chisel this off

then fitting is the reverse

make sure you replace the exhaust gasket
