Not all 2 core rads are the same. The Mini Spares 2 core is a very well designed rad, with very dense gills that have a large surface area and very deep cores (as in front to back). Other 2 core rads are simply an altered version of the standard late Rover design, with 2 sightly deeper cores rather than the usual 3. These are not as good as the Mini Spares version, the Rover design is frankly marginal for a 1275 anyway. 4 core rads generally have just a huge surface area nomatter what make they are. They are simply an older design, the 4 core has been around for decades. It used to be thought that more, smaller cores would result in greater heat transfer. It has been found though that deeper cores with a larger gill area are more effective, and the 4 core doesn't allow as much air through either. It is better than a 3 core though and due to the fairly large spacing of the gills, is quite resistant to blockage so is still considered the best choice for dusty, dirty conditions. The 2 core is far easier to clog up. The Mini Spares 2 core has supposedly come out on top in independent testing, although I haven't seen the actual results. I would say that if the 2 core you have is of unknown make, stick with the 4 core. If it's a Mini Spares rad, go with it.
