evening all, a work friend of mine will be doing the sills and floors on my mini fairly soon, and i have started shopping around for bits, like panels and materials, but not sure what to get to do the underside with... the insides of the sills, etc will be painted with a zinc rich type primer before they are welded on, and obviously waxoyled after.

im more worried about what to use to paint under the car with, i was thinking of using zinc primer, then por15 and then some sort of underseal (whats best?) and maybe some gloss black cellulose paint over the underseal. so what do you think and can anyone reccomend some products or a better more durable way to do it? i dont really want to have to go through this again, lol

thanks again all

i used tetrol under-sealant on the underside of the car and on the inside too like inner seals and floor pans.under all the carpeted areas really lol. then to give it a nice finish i used hammerite gloss black so its got 2 protections really.

i was going to take the underseal up and paint the floor up all nice inside the car to give it a stripped rally car look, but i have real gash looking plates over what i guess is rust, and its got oversills, so im going to have the sills and floors done, then do it all properly! i did know about this when i bought the car though. seriously i did!

a good idea for a shield against rust, dirt, water, general *poop poop*, is to spray on hammerite stone chip shield over the top of some undersealant.

i do this because it is a very quick way to give extra protection to the underseal, also it looks nice, and is a satisfying job

then all you need to do is look under your car whenever you can be bothered and see whether you need to put some more spray on .

But weathers good this time of year so i wouldnt worry about rust that badly.

i will be doing all this to the underside of my new floor panels and sills that i ordered yesterday.

hope this helps

x2 on the stonechip. Sprayed this on the INSIDE of my floor pans as I don't have carpets, and any other sort of paint seemed to crud up. SOOOOOO much better now.

it wont be done till the end of the show season as i intend to go to a few, just shopping around for bits for it... i have access to a fourpost lift, so it will be kept clean under there, and im not planning on using it in the gritting season either.. can i spray glossblack over the hammerite stonechip shield? or is it already gloss black? many thanks for the advice! :)

Stonechip comes in grey and black (probably more, white etc.) but its all a matt finish.

Just use the POR15 and paint over it in the colour of your choice. It actually states in their ads that they recommend topcoating for UV protection.

can use zinga but its application require the metal to be shot blasted so its probably not easy if you have already welded the floors in
