None with arm rests??

Nope, prepare for an essay grab yourself a beer and read on - anyway, we rejected them for 3 reasons:

1) Design - To incorporate an armrest it has to become the door handle and incorporating both into the design simply makes the Door Card look cluttered. So after sketching out some ideas to incorporate both into a “pull handle/armrest” we moved straight onto fixings...

2) Fixing - The only sufficient way to fix/attach a pull handle/armrest is to use existing mounting points so the pull handle/armrest attaches through the Door Card into the door itself, just like how the standard door pull handles attach (both the horizontal ones and angled ones).

If attached in this way it means that every time you pull or lean on the pull handle/armrest you are putting the stress on the door itself, rather than putting the stress on the Door Card.

The door is designed to take the stress (it has done successfully since the introduction of the MK3 Door Card in 1969), whereas a Door Card is simply not capable of doing so and the armrest will quite quickly become weak. So with the mounting points in mind this brings us onto ergonomics...

3) Ergonomics - Basically you have to use either the horizontal or angled door handle mounting positions, so the pull handle/armrest is sufficiently attached to the door.

Both of these locations are insufficient for armrests. The horizontal mounting points are simply too high and as for the angled mounting points go, well we all know they are insufficient. As, if the angled door pulls were sufficient armrest then the question would never have needed to be asked in the first place.

Yes there are ways around this, by introducing advanced fixing systems that run under the coverings and pop into the holes, which in return would allow the armrests to sit lower, but advanced becomes expensive.

So basically we ended up scrapping the idea.

Anyway apologies for the essay, this is all going in a new section (with pictures) on the website titled "Design & Manufacturer" which will include not only the concept design and manufacture processes of our current products, but will also include bits 'n' bobs that have been rejected. Like arm rests…

or

from £39.99 (2 piece kit - front Door Cards only)

Once again, if a combination of dark or natural vinyl tones are chosen the Classic-Twist range looks very luxurious, especially if combined with chrome door furniture. Alternatively, if bright vinyl tones are chosen the range becomes extremely eye catching.

Finally, because you can choose a two tone colour combination, it does not mean that you have to. One tone Classic-Twist Door Cards can look just as effective as two tone combinations - especially in dark and natural colours.

This weeks release:

(Click on the image above to be re-directed to the website)

Our 'Premium' Door Card ranges are designed for those seeking something completely different to anything else currently available. Two designs are available, both designed by, and unique to Optimise Automotive.

The first 'Premium' is specifically designed to compliment the layout and feel of a MK3 (Onwards) Mini interior. The curved 'featured' area of the design incorporates the layout of the door furniture resulting in a 'designer' appearance. This, combined with the vertical lines of stitching creates a feel of refinement that is often reserved for prestigious modern super cars such as the Pigoni Zonda or Aston Martins DBS.

Finally, because you can choose a two tone colour combination, it does not mean that you have to. One tone Premium Door Cards can look just as effective as two tone combinations - especially in dark and natural colours.

The second 'Premium' is specifically designed to compliment the layout and feel of a pre MK3 (Onwards) Mini interior. Designed with a retro-classic theme in mind, the design follows the lines of the early doors. This, combined with the vertical stitching creates a feel of refinement that was previously reserved for prestigious classic cars such as the Jaguar E Type and Aston Martin DB5.

Finally, because you can choose a two tone colour combination, it does not mean that you have to. One tone Premium Door Cards can look just as effective as two tone combinations - especially in dark and natural colours.

from £99.99 (4 piece kit - front & rear Door Cards)
or
from £69.99 (2 piece kit - front Door Cards only)

Available for all MK's and variants of the Classic Mini:

MK1/MK2/MK3 (Onwards) Saloons & Clubman's (1959 to 2000)
Mini Van’s (1960 to 1982)
Mini Pick-up’s (1961 to 1982)
