Hi, I have been a long time visitor to this site but am only posting now as I have a query regarding the subframes on a mini.

Is there anybody out there that makes lightweight tubular subframes for the classic mini. So far I have found only one company making titanium subframes for around £1350! Unfortunately this is miles over my budget. I may decide to make one for myself if need be but am wondering if they are already out there?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks Dan

Think Z cars do one, prolly needs a few other specialist bits.

On the dvd it looks like it includes all the bits you need if you buy the kit. It doesnt use Mini suspension anymore its replaced by inboard coilover shocks and is all fully adjustable.

No idea. I know it is steel tube so wont be as light as the titanium alternative. But is does look like it will be lighter than the standard just by how much material is used. Plus the alloy suspension parts.
Check it out:

Often thought about this in the past - but could never afford to do anything about it!

Wow, thanks for the quick response to you all. I will be looking into the Zcars subframe kit, however I was hoping that there was a kit available that was more sympathetic to the mini design ie. so that standard parts could be used such as suspension etc... I'll have to see what turns up, thanks Dan

Apparently Zcars offer an alloy rad with it that bolts on the front of the frame.

Hi, just a quick update I have enquired at a number of different companies and nobody seems to offer a lightweight alternative to the standard subframe that fits all standard mini parts.

Unfortunately I can't justify spending £1400 on a zcars subframe or £1350 on a forceracing subframe when it would mean all my current suspension upgrades will have been for nothing. Also the stock radiator will not fit the zcars subframe and you need to buy a zcars radiator to fit.

I think I can make myself one for around a 3rd of the cost of a zcars subframe so watch this space...

I think Paul Wiggington has a home spun frame on his Sprint.

I must not add one of these to my ever expanding wish list!!
